We see infants and toddlers as active participants who have the freedom to make their own choices and who have the right to engage in uninterrupted play in a safe and interesting environment.
Our daily programme in the nursery is based around what infants and toddlers are telling us. We have a relaxed routine approach, acknowledging individuals needs and believe infants and toddlers have their own rhythm (routine).
As teachers this means providing close responsive relationships where we are watching, listening, engaging – being fully present in order to pick up on what our children are telling us.
Through this approach we believe infants and toddlers are empowered through a philosophy of respect. They are given the freedom to make choices, space to move freely and time to respond through unhurried routines and experiences.
The Nursery is set up in an interesting and attractive way with an array of different objects and materials for our children to explore. Infants and toddlers are exposed to many different mediums such as wood, metal, cane and other natural materials.
Infants and toddlers are at a very tactile age and we celebrate this through providing many tactile textured experiences throughout the day. Such experiences may include paint, glue,
collage materials, messy play with a variety of mediums.
The natural environment is a very important part of the Nursery philosophy. The children are given many opportunities to explore their outside world freely. Sand, water, shells, bark, plants etc are able to be explored and empower the children to make connections with the outside world.
In all we offer, infants and toddlers have a choice to be involved. They are invited, unhurried and respected for their decisions and involvement. Within this philosophy we believe infants and toddlers gain determination, confidence and positive attitudes when they are cherished and nurtured as an individual and given the freedom to be involved in a safe, peaceful and satisfying place.
